About the Artist

These earrings are part of our Aboriginal Shared Dreaming collection, featuring the licensed artwork of Selina Napanangka Fisher, a Warlpiri artist from Yuendumu who has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation since 2006. Raised watching her grandmother Topsy Napurrurla Fisher paint, Selina learned the Jukurrpa stories of her country from childhood and now carries them forward through her own work.

The Story Behind the Art

The Pikilyi Jukurrpa (Vaughan Springs Dreaming) comes from a large and important waterhole and natural spring near Mount Doreen Station, west of Yuendumu. It tells of two rainbow serpents, ancestral heroes who lived together as man and wife in a union that was forbidden under Warlpiri law. Napanangka and Napangardi women, custodians of this Dreaming, would sit by the serpents and tend to them, and in return were granted access to the sacred waters of the springs.
