About the Artist

This necklace pendant is part of our Aboriginal Shared Dreaming collection, featuring the licensed artwork of Judy Napangardi Watson, a Warlpiri artist who paints with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community 290km north-west of Alice Springs. Her work carries the sacred women's stories of her ancestral country with quiet authority and colour.

The Story Behind the Art

The Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming) comes from a sacred site far west of Yuendumu, country that belongs to Napangardi and Napanangka women and their Japangardi and Japanangka brothers. The story tells of a group of women who travelled east from Mina Mina, gathering ngalyipi (snake vine) and performing ceremonies as they journeyed. The women began at Mina Mina where karlangu (digging sticks) emerged from the ground, and their travels created a trail of sacred sites extending far beyond Warlpiri country.
